Poverty has been around for as long as anyone can remember. It’s a complex issue, with no easy solution. For generations, families have struggled to make ends meet. They’ve watched their children go hungry, without proper clothing or shelter.
They’ve watched their communities fall apart.
It’s time to put an end to poverty. But it’s not going to be easy. The uphill battle starts with us. We need to be the change that we want to see in the world. We need to stand up and fight for those who can’t fight for themselves. We need to demand better from our leaders and ourselves.
ZEROING IN ON THE COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO
Individuals and families that live in the County of San Bernardino have the highest rate of impoverished families with percentage being 17.2%. Unfortunately, this percentage is higher than both the state and national averages.
Furthermore, the number of children who live in low-income households ( 185% below the poverty level equating to $48,470 for a family of four) that are eligible to receive free or reduced- priced school meals remains consistent.
For example:
☆ 71.6% of K-12 public students were eligible in 2019 and 2020 which is only five percentage points higher than 65.8% that were eligible in 2010 and 2011.
We can start transforming Lives by ensuring that everyone has access to more than just basic needs. Together, we can work to create opportunities for all, regardless of background or circumstance
. The future we build will be brighter for all of us.
It’s time to let an end to poverty.
